Bar Games

from Lyrics by Thursday's Child

lyrics

Bar Games (30)
Ken Punshon & Chris Pyam (2010)

She was standing in a wine bar, dressed from head to toe
In Prada from her sponsor, the cost she didn't know
Looking round the dance floor, a young man caught her eye
Emboldened by the cocktail, she thought she'd have a try

Strolling to his table, she started with the line
Sorry to disturb you, but do you have the time?
If you have the money, he quipped as his reply
(Thinking rather smugly, that he was a funny guy)

Of course I have the money, was her quick retort
But my mother always told me, to try before I bought
Besides, when you consider the nature of my ways
I think it is more likely you'll be the one to pay

There is a special offer, buy one get one free
Because it is the happy hour, my friend could come with me
Warming to the banter, he suggested that she should sit
So that they could both enjoy the repartee and wit

They talked some more together, and soon had exchanged names
She told him she loved crosswords and intellectual games
He admitted predilection for darts and dominoes
And frequent games of pool to keep him on his toes

She had a love of bridge and chess, backgammon and mah jhong
He for one armed bandits and karaoke song
Reacting to this discourse, he thought he'd try his luck
Never realising he was going to come unstuck

He suggested that she should come upstairs and play
She nodded in acceptance, she'd let him have his way
Thinking it was Christmas, his face creased in a smile
Little did he know, he'd be paying in a while

They left the bar together, going to her room
Neither coule envisage that the end was coming soon
Thus it was that something that started as a lark
Ended with them playing murder in the dark

about

Thursday's Child UK

Thursday's Child was born on a Monday (August Bank Holiday 2009)!

Chris Pyam and Ken Punshon got together to try out a couple of ideas for songs. That afternoon they created about eight songs; since then over 100 more have emerged, with a few more 'bubbling away'.

Heather Dunn joined us in Nov 13 to contribute additional harmonies during the creation of our third album (Carry My Thoughts).
