Bring Us Home
Ken Punshon & Chris Pyam (2012)
Sharp explosions heard, Sudden pulse of air, Then cold water rushing in
Beginnings of despair
Bow begins to dip, Sink beneath the waves, Slipping through the ice cold sea
To our watery graves
[Bring us home, Bring us home, Set us free, Set us free
Bring us home, from under the sea]
23 survived, For several long tense days, Vainly tapping on the walls
You bet their lives they prayed
Now breathing CO2, Slowly fall asleep, When the notes we've writ are read
Hear our families weep

While all aboard had died

Hauling

Hauling (89)
Ken Punshon & Chris Pyam (2012)
For 200 years they pulled the loads
Thirty times what they could by road
They didn't care what it was they towed
Hauling on the barge
Day after day they plied their trade
Moving materials and products made
A sack of oats their daily pay
For Hauling on the barge
[Hauling on the barge
Hauling on the barge
A sack of oats their daily pay
For Hauling on the barge]
Slow and steady the horses strong
Roses and castles pulled along
Accompanied by the boatman's song
Hauling on the barge
Pulling the loads of coal and stone
Often made the hawser groan
The horse continued all alone
Hauling on the barge
[Hauling on the barge
Hauling on the barge
The horse continued all alone
Hauling on the barge]
Years of neglect and disrepair
Trade did those canals forswear
The horses did their work despair
Not Hauling on the barge
Nowadays the horsepower's hid
Underneath the engine lid
Hire a boat for several quid
No Hauling on the barge
[Hauling on the barge
Hauling on the barge
Hire a boat for several quid
No Hauling on the barge]

Just in case you don't know them:
Hello darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping, Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone, Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw, Ten thousand people maybe more
People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools," said I, "you do not know, Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you, Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed, To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning, In the words that it was forming
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence"

Once again, you should know them:
I met my girl at Woolwich Pier beneath a big crane standing
And oh, the love I felt for her it passed all understanding
Took her sailing on the river, flow, sweet river, flow
London town was mine to give her, sweet Thames, flow softly
Made the Thames into a crown, flow, sweet river, flow
Made a brooch of Silvertown, sweet Thames, flow softly
At London Yard I held her hand at Blackwall Point I faced her
At the Isle of Dogs I kissed her mouth and tenderly embraced her
Heard the bells of Greenwich ringing, flow, sweet river, flow
All the time my heart was singing, sweet Thames, flow softly
Limehouse Reach I gave her there, flow, sweet river, flow
As a ribbon for her hair, sweet Thames, flow softly
From Shadwell dock to Nine Elms Reach we cheek to cheek were dancing
Her necklace made of London Bridge her beauty was enhancing
Kissed her once again at Wapping, flow, sweet river, flow
After that there was no stopping, sweet Thames, flow softly
Richmond Park it was her ring, flow, sweet river, flow
I'd have given her anything, sweet Thames, flow softly
From Rotherhithe to Putney Bridge my love I was declaring
And she, from Kew to Isleworth, her love for me was swearing.
Love had set my heart a-burning, flow, sweet river, flow
Never saw the tide was turning, sweet Thames, flow softly
Gave her Hampton Court to twist, flow, sweet river, flow
Into a bracelet for her wrist, sweet Thames, flow softly
But now alas the tide has changed my love she has gone from me
And winter's frost has touched my heart and put a blight upon me
Creeping fog is on the river, flow, sweet river, flow
Sun and moon and stars gone with her, sweet Thames, flow softly
Swift the Thames runs to the sea, flow, sweet river, flow
Bearing ships and part of me, sweet Thames, flow softly

Thursday's Child UK
Thursday's Child was born on a Monday (August Bank Holiday 2009)!
Chris Pyam and
Ken Punshon got together to try out a couple of ideas for songs. That afternoon they created about eight songs; since then over 100 more have emerged, with a few more 'bubbling away'.
Heather Dunn joined us in Nov 13 to contribute additional harmonies during the creation of our third album (Carry My Thoughts).
