lyrics

(Dogs of) War
Ken Punshon & Chris Pyam (2011)
Each verse consist of three overlapping sets of words!

[We left the shores of Blighty boys; To fight against the foe
In raging storms, sick with disease; Jones's locker down below]

Henry built the Royal Navy, first gunship Mary Rose
These wooden walls of England helped vanquish all our foes

We fought the French, we fought with Spain, and then we fought some more
More oft than not we would winners be, the English dogs of war

Henry built the Mary Rose To vanquish all our foes
We fought the French, we fought some more The English dogs of war

[]

The Armada came, we saw them off, with fireships and with guns
With weather's help, were many wrecked, and once again we'd won

Our nimble ships, built for speed, close to the wind could sail
Sturdy guns fired at close range ensured we would prevail

The Armada came with lots of guns With weather's help again we'd won
Our nimble ships, close to could sail With sturdy guns we would prevail

[]

Two hundred ships sailed to Quebec, to put them under siege
The lobsters got their rifles out, and Canada we freed

Upon the Plains of Abraham we saw them eye to eye.
Our ranks held firm a volley fired and many Frenchies died

Two hundred ships Quebec did siege The lobsters rifles them did free
At Abraham we saw their eyes Our ranks fired, and many died

[]

By the time Trafalgar came we knew we'd win the scrap
Nelson died a hero there, but the Frenchies won't be back

They had more ships, they had more guns, but they didn't have our men
We cut their line in half me lads, then routed them a-gen

Trafalgar came we'd win the scrap Nelson died but they'll not be back
They had more ships but not our men We cut their line and routed them

[]

If you want peace, prepare for war, so it's oft been said
Then when it comes, the Dogs of War, unleash and give their head

The Chatham Chest awaits us now, now our time is done
We'll rest in peace, in Ing-er-land, now the war is won

Wish for peace, it's oft been said The Dogs of War must have their head
To Chatham Chest now time is done Rest in peace, now war is won

about

Thursday's Child UK

Thursday's Child was born on a Monday (August Bank Holiday 2009)!

Chris Pyam and Ken Punshon got together to try out a couple of ideas for songs. That afternoon they created about eight songs; since then over 100 more have emerged, with a few more 'bubbling away'.

Heather Dunn joined us in Nov 13 to contribute additional harmonies during the creation of our third album (Carry My Thoughts).
